Frost a Plenty!!!

Standard

We have been experiencing good ole frost.  Not much snow to speak of but the frost is beautiful!

Gloaming Frost

I took this picture real quick thinking it was an eagle, later as I was looking at it I am pretty sure it’s just a black bird.

Eagle in Flight (or maybe just some blackbird) Still interesting.

My walking companions seem to wonder why I am constantly stopping and bending over something or looking at something really close but they are fine with waiting until I am done.

Patient Dogs (Luke sometimes just waits until I am done taking pictures.)

Some pictures speak peace or closure, either closure of the day or closure of the growing season when all leaves have fallen and the ground starts to have its winter blanket.

Frosty Gloaming Picnic

This next quote is out of the book The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani, page 422:

“It seemed to Ciro that so much of life was about not holding on, but letting go and in so doing, the beauty of the past and the happiness he felt then came full circle like a band of gold.  The night sky, the cemetery, the memory of places past and the people who had been there to bear witness, provided all the constancy his heart required.  This is what it means to be part of a family.”

I am thankful for my family, the close and the extended.  We are there for each other through the good and the hard, the sweet and the bitter, the complicated and the simple.  We may not alway be able to fix each other’s problems but we can listen to a loved ones troubles and help them share the burden.  At times, when the unexplainable or the unwanted, or unacceptable things happen, we can lessen the pain. We can also lift one another up and double the joy when we share the blessings and the successes.  They are not always easy, impossible to be perfect, but family relations bring so much into our lives. At this time of year may you find yourself surrounded by loved ones – even if it’s on social media!!!

Almost Christmas!

It’s In the Perspective!

Standard

This post was started last month so is a little out of date!  For instance, snow, frost, cold – all seem long gone.  We have had a strangely warm weather pattern for the last couple of week that will probably continue into this next week.  I know better then to think that the cold season is over but am enjoying the warmth while it last.  Please enjoy some perspectives I have found in these pictures.

My camera eye has been drawn to weird things lately, as you will see.

Interesting shell on dry riverbed.

Interesting shell on dry riverbed.

This seems to be a larger then normal snail shell (at least for our little river).  My eye was drawn to that area and at first I did not know why until I looked closely and saw the shell.  The shell is a symbol of planned, patterned, normal in the midst of chaos.  Not everyone will see it that way but time and again, I feel a sense of calm looking at that shell.

Someone is saying where are my white sunglasses!

Someone is saying where are my white sunglasses!

Once again, I was drawn to look deep into this puddle near the river’s edge to look at what seemed out of the normal and I saw the white sunglasses.  I chuckled to think that someone’s floaty rolled over and off went their favorite sunglasses into the water.  Was it you?  Well maybe they will still be there in the spring.  I feel a sense of humor looking at this picture.

Yucky Muck!

Yucky Muck!

This is a pile of yuck formed in a bend in the river.  With the river water level down it is yuckier then ever.  The film of goo, the dark trailing moss, the tangle of sticks all form a picture that feels sinister.

Do You Ever Feel Muted?

Do You Ever Feel Muted?

Sometimes we all feel like we are lost in the crowd, not recognized for who we are, or simply buried under our false identities.  I was drawn to this statue of a girl and a boy in one of my flower beds because it reminds me of how I can feel if I let myself wallow in self-pity or let the weight of burdens wear me down.

River Snags

River Snags

This is a recent picture, and I might have shown this scene before.  These two logs sticking way out of the water at low water level are two of the snags we have to watch out for in the summer when we raft down the river.  Then just the tips of these two sneaky logs can be seen and it is fun to paddle our hearts out trying to get around them.  Some day we might just see what happens if we let the tubes go where they will.  (Are ya game Kel?)

Choochie has struck again!

Choochie has struck again!

This was taken in the midst of a visit from Choochie!  It is a fun chaos that pops up shortly upon her arrival.  Fortunately, Choochie’s mother is very good about helping to clean up before they leave.  This makes me feel happy and I want to say “Ohhhh” in a sustained gushy voice, with my head tilting to one side and my eyebrows forming into an expression that says “She is so sweet”! (Just have a few grandkids and you will know exactly what face I am talking about.)  It goes along with the feeling of itchy fingers that long to tickle the sweetness that causes this mess!

Christmas Eve Storm

We finally got some snow on Christmas Eve – which was very timely! Beauty in white and colors!

Blown Up Cattail

Blown Up Cattail

These cattails speak of the beauty of dying to oneself.  In order for new cattails to grow the old ones have to completely, literally, come apart at the seams.  Sacrifice, not an easy thing, can be a blessing.

Beauty in Frost!  These pictures were taken in my yard when we still had winter. Their beauty shows the effect of frost on metal.  Kind of like believing in good coming out of trials, there is always something to hope for even in the heart of winter and there is ALWAYS beauty for the eye to see!

Always seeking,

I wanted to say the “RELENTLESS” march of winter but realized that would sound a little negative!  We are only into the second month of the season of fall and once again we are blessed with frozen rain.  I actually get a little excited because the beauty of new fallen snow can take your breath away.  We are ready – wood stacked, pine cone fire starters made, the camper has her winter tarp on and the snow plow is moved over and battery charger plugged in.  It’s not hard to find gratitude in my heart for the blessing of a warm home!

May you all be ready – don’t let Old Man Winter catch you napping!

Laugh and the Worlds Laughs With You!

Standard

It’s been busy around here and once again I have taken far too long to post!  Health issues, jobs, trips to doctors, grandbaby watching… my excuses could go on and on.

Yesterday Hubster reached the end of his rope with an insurance issue on one of his knees.  Things were tense around here but we had plans to attend a production of “King David” at the local theater then dinner for the production crew afterwards.  Needless to say, Hubton had a hard time not grousing about the schedule he had to stick to because of me, but he, for the most part, held back his angst and followed through.  It turned out to be a wonderful production!  Afterwards the dinner was a great success (at lease they ate almost all the food so it must not have been so bad) but even more wonderful was the laughter and tears that were shared over the meal.  It has been a long time since we have laughed so hard.  It is funny that with some people you have an instant kindred spirit and we found ourselves feeling as if we had known them forever. Some of the people we have known for awhile and it was great to get to spend time with them again.  I feel, too, that we were rewarded for our effort and God blessed us with lifting up our hearts with joy.

Please enjoy some of my latest “Dog Constitutional” pictures!

I want to show off some more flowers in my yard!  One thought I had today after I took all the pictures and was then later sitting in my lawn chair in the early evening while my pictures were downloading was this.  I can pick and choose what I show you in my yard.  Never would I show the grass that is taking over some of the beds, or the weeds that stick their tongue out at me when I walk by or the dry spots in the lawn or the dead looking limbs on one of my aspen trees.  No!  I only present you with the healthy and the lovely.  So too, in life we often try to bury down deep the parts of us that aren’t so pretty.  Our insecurities, our faults, our stinky stuff is what we spend our whole life trying to hide behind the screen.  It’s ok!  We all do it!  And we all know we have our screens.  I want to be the kind of friend that allows people to show me what’s behind their screen, the deep dark secrets and my hope would be to bring water of refreshing words of hope and joy to the dry patches, Round-Up  words of strength to overcome the lies that grow like weeds,  a  pruner to help remove the meaningless, empty facts and histories that should no longer have a hold on us and finally a sharp strong spade that turns over new earth and claims the land of the heart for only good truths to take root!  I have some of those kind of friends in my life and thank God for them.

Anyhooooo!  Hope you are all enjoying the remaining time of summer.  Around here it is a matter of counting the days until the first frost comes and things begin to wind down.  In the mean time we still have plenty of flowers and hummingbirds and glorious sunrise and sunsets!

Laughter is the best medicine!
