Lately I have been thinking of an analogy that my hubby came up with many years ago. We had gone through a period of great stress and change and some ill health thrown in to boot and Hubster was just not himself! He was not a “happy camper”. He became quiet and did not laugh, and even worse, he did not sing! We were able to get away as a family and spend some time at the YWAM Base in Kona doing a DTS (Discipleship Training School). It was so timely. Halfway through he began to open up and he shared that our lives are like ripples in a lake caused by a stone thrown in. There are several ripples that travel out. He said the inner ripples are your loved ones and very close friends and then goes out from there to where the far ripples are people who we have only a slight relationship with. He felt like he was in a time of “Low Ripple Count”. He said he had so little to give of himself that he only had a few ripples – or people in his life that he had relationship with. It was a time of inner focus and bare minimum ability to relate with others beyond the few inner people – his wife and his children. So ever since then we will periodically do a ripple count. And lately, due to a bout of constant knee pain, I feel that my ripples have been drawn in and there are not very many. Thankfully, I am on the mend and the ripples are starting to go out and I feel such a relief and gratitude for the blessing of modern medicine. (It really was only a minor knee problem and has not been that big a deal but that constant, steady, nagging pain can really make one suffer.) It also gives a person such empathy for others who are going through hard trials. I thank God, that in such times, He is faithful to reveal His peaceful beauty giving us a reason to rejoice and renew our faith. I have hobbled around my yard and taken some lovely pictures of flowers that blessed me.
I love this one with rain drops:
I also was able to catch a beautiful sunrise one morning last week.
I know that we encourage each other, and I have felt such encouragement from so many! May you be encouraged in your heart that even when the ripples are few a grateful heart is like a fresh stone being thrown in the center of you and the ripples rise up and spread out!!!
